I've read quite a bit on here about cleaning the EGR, so am tempted to give it a go. My question though is, if Vx have run the diagnostic and told me I needed a replacement EGR (which they quoted £330 for :o ) then is cleaning it going to do anything?
I'm guessing it's still worth a try as Vx would rather charge £330 than clean and put back on? Or does the fault reader give a definitive "you must REPLACE the EGR" ??
Cheers.

Fault reader can only give an indication that the EGR is not doing as its told.
This is normaly because its sticking due to crudd build-up......give it a realy good cean out, paint stripper is very good at removing carbon build up.

You can always just blank it off, its not really required ;)

Sorry to ask a silly question, but where is the EGR on a x20xev? It's on my list of things to address...
:-[ Found it. Access is lovely, eh? ::)

Clean and blank off, easy enough job ;)

..have a go at cleaning or if you want to blank off the valve. You must though leave the electrics connected to the DBW or faults will still be recorded. As a matter of interest VX did an exchange EGR for the 2.2 see if your dealer can still get this part. It is a lot cheaper than the new price. Also £330 is very excessive, a new valve from a motor factors made by the original manufactures (Delphi) is £126 + vat.

What symptoms are you getting with the car before you rush off and change the EGR?

Occasional hesitancy to rev cleanly below ~2500rpm, above seems ok. Intermittantly accompanied by EML? ( the car with the spanner) coming on.
As I say Vx say it is the EGR. Is there a chance I shouldn't trust what they say?
Also, is there any guide on here on how to blank off the EGR as that seems to be the recommended thing to do? I've tried searching, but it only seems to come up with the most recent 15 results? ( Sorry, newb who hasn't used this type of forum before!! :-? )

for ref TC price for a 2.2 EGR is £125+ vat. The extra 200 quid must be for the fitting :D

OK, cheers guys. I think i'm going to try cleaning it out now as per the instructions in that thread. Hopefully that will sort it. I don't think I know what i'd be doing with blanking plates (unless anyone's got any pics or exact instructions?) so will leave that for now.

On the EGR topic. What size of TORX bit do you need to remove it?
