Whenever it gets cold, I get an eml for the secondary air injector system. I know many of you just disconnect it as it is not needed, but doesn't the light still remain once the blower is disconnected? The solenoid works as does the by-pass valve and it seems to have quite a bit of air flow through the by-pass valve. I have had the check valve off and cleaned it out with carb cleaner. It does let air flow both ways, but I wouldn't think that would affect the system too much (would it?) I have replaced one oxygen sensor (when I got an eml for it, and it is genuine) but this problem has been around since before that. No other codes are present. Any suggestions?

Letting air flow both ways is bad and may have given you a phantom fault on the lamba sensor. Any fresh air that can get sucked into the exhaust prior to the lambda sensor will give extra oxygen to the sensor which will give duff info to the ECU.
You need to disconnect the SAI, plug the pipe but fool the ECU into thinking the SAI is still there.
What's the SAI fault code you have? That would point to the part the ECU has the issue with.

The code is DTC P0411 (AIR System No Flow Detected). The exhaust gases are stopped by the AIR cutoff valve, which is connected to the vacuum control solenoid. Could it be possible that the larger metal check valve, which is allowing flow both ways, is preventing the cutoff valve from opening due to the increased pressure on itself?
