Title: Squeaky steering column on drive by wire?

Given that "drive by wire" means there is no traditional steering column.

Why does my steering squeak on turning.

It seems to sound like an ungreased metal column being turned
within an ungreased something else.

Try as I might, outwith going near an overpriced Mechanic/Fitter at VX
nobody seems to be able to diagnose this problem.

Its more of an irritation than an an issue.

Any advise appreciated...

I thought drive by wire refered to the fact that the throttle was controlled electronically rather than with a throttle cable. I thought the steering was Electronically assisted Power Steering with the steering column connected to a steering box as normal??????

I'm guessing the squeek must be down to a rubber bush or something, trial by ear I guess.

Its normaly the rubber coupling by the pedals at the base of the column

Common problem that's usually worse when cold.

There's an official Vx fix that basically loosens the clamp.

Is there no way to have a quick rack on the omega? , just it does turn alot of times lock to lock

There isn't a rack on the Omega, just a steering box so changing the ratio would be a challenge.
