Mrs Bigcat and I are taking the Omega back down to Italy this winter through our usual route over the Alps. I've been advised that I'll need tire chains (or should that be tyre?) to be able to proceed through Switzerland at that time of year.
I've only ever used them once before, and that was on a hire car. My question is: Does anyone have any recommendations or what I should be looking for and where to buy etc?
The tires I have are Michelin 225/15 R 99 (heavy load rating, as I often 'load her up'). Would it be better to buy some winter tires, keeping in mind I have extremely limited storage space?

Gosh, there's quite a difference in price, does anyone know if the more expensive ones are easier to drive on, or is it just that they're easier to fit?
The only time I drove on chains, they nearly shook the car to bits above 40KMH.

chaining the car under snow and freezing cold is not easy ...And driving with them is a pain and damages the car..
snow palettes or studded tires are much better and also expensive :-/
