did you damage anything when you smashed off the old one??? it wouldnt take much to do some damage to a wire or connection!! or maybe a fuse or fuses have blown?? obvious i know but you never know. HTH

It would be handy to know the model and year. On the facelifts, there is a keyreader coil around the key barrel. If this is damaged it wouldn't read the chip in the key, and the imobiliser will kick in and the car will not start, however you would get the dash lights. This needs a Tech 2 to fix. Ugh!
