Title: Any (paid) help available in Wigan Lancs area?
Post by: stevejones on 28 October 2007, 10:51:34
Plod's post just got me thinking. I've been posting recently about my failed attempt at cam cover gasket changing. The car is now running (just) but sounds very sick. Rather than asking a garage for help, I'd fbe much happier paying an 'expert' to look at it - it may be fairly obvious to one of the forum members.

So if anyone would consider having a look for a reasonable cost, I'd be very grateful. My only other option is to strip it all down again and hope I find something obvious.

ta

I know nothing much at all about engines, which is typical since i'm about 10 minutes away!!

Pete - I would be very grateful if you were available. I think I can manage til end of week using train to work. Obvioulsy you can't estimate cost without seeing it but I'd appreciate anything you can do. Funnily enough, my brother lives in Winsford and my Dad lives on Castle Hill at Northwich.

I'll try and be available whenever you can make it - am I OK to put my phone number on here? (I'm not bothered myself but I know some sites suggest you don't?)

Dan you can come along too see how its done and then you'll know for next time :y

Thanks all for the support. Question for Andy (at Kitt Green) - Pete at Northwich is happy for you to have a look at my car if you are available - he's snowed under and also a bit of a drive away. If you fancy a go, I'd be grateful. I'm praying you will hear it run and say - "Aha! That's the ......" The sooner you could get here (Wigan town centre) the better.

Let me know?

Matt, you asked how I've cocked it up? Probably simplest if I refer to you to my pathetic catalogue of errors under the title 'Cost of cambelt cover change' (or very similar)....I followed the instructions to change my cam cover gaskets, and now it runs like a dog. I suspect I've either connected a pipe the wrong way around, or pulled too hard on the plug leads and loosened something at the DIS pack, or not plugged the injector rail connector back in hard enough, or, or, or etc.

Mate from work lets me use his building there for wet weather servicing and if I need a pit.

The Wigan kebab is a pie on a barm, traditionally a meat and tater but I prefer em with meat pies myself.

You can have too much of a good thing, especially when you've seen what they look like when they've spent a few weeks under a filling machine! :-?  :-?  ;D

We pretty much take risks with all the food we eat, no one really has an idea where their food was and how it was handled before it reached the customer

it tastes good, and if it doesnt give me diarrhoea then i'm a happy man

even if it does give me diarrhoea, if i'm in no rush to be anywhere i'm still a happy man :y

Just an update - I decided to try again so removed the plenum to find that one of the rubber seals between the plenum and the next bit of the inlet where the injectors are mounted had been mashed up when I put everything back together. Replaced this and Bob is now my uncle! Obviously a major air leak.

Thanks again for all the offers of help - we will still have to arrange something for the North West!!
