Is this a myth or have I got one that doesn't work? I've read somwhere that the Elites are fitted with an automatically dimming rear view mirror. I'm a bit confused because I use the rear blind at night and it does the job. There is however a small senser type thing in the rear view mirror but it defo doesn't dim when I get headlights in it.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Thanks.... :)

Try it with the blind down.
You should notice the mirror turning greenish when anyone is behind you with their lights on. :y
I always have my blind up too, and it is far less noticable when it is up.

Nice pun by the way. ;)

I started using the blind when I realised that it may be not working, but without the blind it does'nt react at all to anything..... :'(

i used to have a bmw that did the same.
i must admit the rear view mirror used to change to a green colour at night.
there is a sensor on the rear and front.
if you put the car into reverse gear at night the mirror would change back to normal
the elite i have also changes colour at night 8-)

I'm not too convinced with the effectiveness of the auto dim mirror either, I even bought (& sold) another mirror as I didn't think mine worked properly. I always have the blind up any way but I also have a bit of black tape over the light sensor on the front of the mirror so it always thinks it's dark and so is always at full dim.
-
Even with tinted windows and blind up, mines still turns green.
The difference is really obvious though when the blind is down.

Obvious yes .... effective? Not so sure! :-/

Mrs.Loo-knee has one on her Classic Rangey and it is very good to be honest...... Soon as headlights are blazing into it, it goes dark and a little green light comes on underneath.. :y

I have them in both my Omegas, and they work. At dusk/dawn, not so effective. Also, a car a long way behind with full beam on not so effective. Otherwise, works very well

That's when I do notice it. Anyway my bit of tape over the front daylight sensor sorts it for me. ;)
My Astra's manual dip mirror stays permanently dipped day or night.

Since having the autodip mirrors, I rarely use the blind at night (never used the manual dip - too lazy ::))

My blind rarely goes back down. When I had a Senator it meant getting out of the car and gettiing in the back to raise the blind - far too much work, consequently it stayed up for the 6 years I had it. Manual dip mirror stayed manually dipped too! :y :y

Yes, silly idea really...
...still, the senny needed a blind to hold the rust together....

mines works for me, i think its better than not having it :o :o :o

It's all incidental really, as if you have 5 of the later head restraints, you can't see f*** all out of the rear view mirrow anyway! ;) ;) ;)
