Title: Reverse light switch
Post by: MickAP on 11 October 2007, 14:35:56
Got a slight problem with the reverse lights sometimes not coming on straight away when engaging reverse gear. Most noticeable when it's cold weather, not a problem in summer months. So what could it be, sticking switch? And before I try and find the switch...where is it, please point me in the right direction before I start scrambling under the car looking for it. BTW it's a facelift 2.5TD estate.

Been and had a look underneath today, can't seem to see where this is. All I can see is a electrical connection going into the N/S side of the gearbox, what's that? Would I see it better from above ..ie remove part of the centre console. And if it can be acessed would a squirt of oil free it up. BTW it's a manual box.

Ah, sorry, was talking about autobox...  ...not sure about manual.

With a manual box, the only electric wires that go to the box are for the revesing light switch.
IIRC it is on the nearside just high enough up the box to be a pain to get at.
This is assuming that the 2.5 diesel has the same box as the 2.5 petrol.
HTH,
Eddie.

That's the only electrical connection I saw when looking yesterday, so is that it?....If so I think I will just disconnect it clean it up and see what happens. At the moment it only works intermittently, and has done since the outside temp got colder.

I don't know if you can do much with the switch. I unscrewed mine and tested it with a meter,
pushing the plunger in and out, it seemed to work so I re-fitted it and it worked fine for a few months. Trouble is, it's a sealed unit so you can't clean the contacts.
Sorry to sound so pessimistic,
Eddie.
