:( Hi all new here with my first topic
Just had a head gasket change on my 2001 51 plate omega 2ltr Auto petrol LPG converted engine when picking up the car and drove off from the garage I noticed that the auto transmission light was on and while taking off it seemed to drive off very slowly gathering speed on the way.I put it on first gear and it took off normally,it seems to do it when it is on drive mode,I tried the auto transmission sport switch on the gear knob but it is not working as well. Has it got to do anything with the head gasket change ? disconnecting the battery whilst in the garage because this fault was not there before I took the car in for the head gasket replacement Any help or advise will be very gratefull

I'd take it straight back to the garage. Sounds like they have disabled electronic control of the gearbox completely, probably by leaving a connector off or blowing a fuse.

I got this fault on my V6 when I left the throttle position switch off after my cam belt.

I agree with Kevin....take it back! ......the g/b is in 'limp' mode.

thanks for the advise and this morning checked fuses and they are ok kevin advised the
electronic control maybe the garage missed a connecter or according to andy could be that the garage left the trottle position switch off right can anyone tell me were this connectors and trottle switch are please owing that the garage is closed on a weekend and cant really use the car till monday

Just had a thought that your Crank Sensor Plug might not be
in the same position as mine, as I recently replaced it and did
a bit of re-routing.
So where you see the Cam Sensor lead in the picture, find the
other lead near to it, that runs up over the front of your Cam Cover,
(The big bit at the top with ECOTEC written on it), and follow this
lead until you come to a plug connection. Doubt it is this plug, as your
engine wouldn't start, but at least you'll know what you're looking
for in the future.
Knowledge is Power when you're dealing with garages. :y

Hi All
I have read your replies to my problem went to check all you have advised and it seems that everything seems to be in place as far as I know,can I ask if what you have suggested like the crank sensor and all the other sensors you asked me to check, will this result in the gearbox going on limb mode,and could it be that the garage might have switched over a connector.

I think I have mentioned it allready, it is an LPG converted car and beleive me it is very hard to be sure that everything is in place because there are loads of wires and pipes going accross and they are all tied up together with wire ties.

Do paperclip test (see FAQ section) and post back :)

its probably due to them unplugging everything and leaving the battery connected whilst working on the car.
not a good idea as the sensors all give false readings to the ecu
. radio codes usually make mechanics do these things.
anyway i know of a good forum that i use from time to time

was suggested to do a paperclip test and to go on faq section to see how to do it but mine is a 2001 model and on the faq at the end how to do the test it says (After 1999 the chipsets were altered so it was no longer possible to flash the codes out this way. ) is there another way ?

Replying to mikkethealarmguy When I collected the car I have noticed that the radio still worked and did not have to code it again so that means like you suggested that the battery was never disconnected

You can paperclip a 2.0L :y
Its the later 2.2 you carnt ;)

Yup, you can paperclip all 2.0/2.5/3.0 petrol Omegas :)

Thanks a lot for the advise given here car went back to the garage yesterday
could find nothing wrong advised me to go to another garage and put car on computer, computer reading saying that a loose connection in the wiring somewhere ,called back garage and took it back for a double check in the end the garage jacked the car up and found one of the connectors to the gearbox was half way out of its pins back in place and lights on dash went off all back to normal now thanks again for the advise .

You need to ask yourself.... why did they only spot this AFTER reading the codes...
If it was in limp mode, the first thing they should check is that everything is home !!
