Guys,
Picked up the car today after all it's recent work (see my 'hello' thread!) to be told that the guy can't MOT it because he can't find a VIN number! :o
It's too cold and dark for me to look now, but I'm gonna have a rummage around tomorrow. Any pointers as to where it might be? Not in the usual places, ie, windscreen, door sill, front crash panel etc. I must have seen it a thousand times but can't remember. This same garage MOT'd it last year for goodness sake! ::)
It's an Oct '97 Omega 3.0V6 Elite Estate, as far as I know it's a UK model.
Cheers in advance!
Eamonn.

open the bonnet and it should be there at the front a silver bit of metal with numbers stampted on it there is also a vin plate kind of thing on the drivers door piller in black with white letters

Visible VIN on dashboard top, seen through windscreen, nearside, beside tax disc.
Full VIN number on plastic sticker on B pillar, where drivers door latches onto.
Last two thirds of number on stamped VIN plate on bonnet closing panel beside washer filler
Stamped VIN on floor at side of drivers seat, visible after plastic trim levered up on side of drivers seat.

Thought I was going insane..............just got the torch out and shivered out at the garage, the VIN is clear as day on the nearside dashboard top, and stamped into the metal plate by the washer bottle, just where you'd expect it to be. I'll point these out to mr stupid on thursday. As always, thank you chaps! :y

VIN Story.
I once had a Ford Scorpio company car. When delivered it was wrong spec as it had a passenger airbag that wasn't ordered. The garage, in their wisdom, swapped out the whole front dash/facia with another scorpio to give me a car without the unpaid for airbag (tight gits). Anyhoo.... all was well until about a year later, the car was in for service and when i called to see if it was ready I got an "Err ...Mmm.. I'm afraid the police had impounded it. We found that you had a different VIN on the facia to the engine compartment , called the police and their vechile theft unit have got it!!
It took two days to prove what had happened!!
(BTW - Best thing about the Ford Scorpio was........heated front windscreen, all cars should have them.)

I despise those heated screens, I juse see the elements, even when off! when on a nightmare.
Must have sensitive eyes, hate sony trinitron monitors for the same reason, all my eyes pick up is the damping wires

I had a heated screen in my old Range Rover, the wires were as thick as bed springs :o
