Evening All.
Does anyone know of a decent and reliable garage in the Southampton area where I can get the fluid changed in my auto gearbox. I’ve just passed the 80K mark and starting to get a few issues with poor gear changes and intermittent loss of drive (few seconds only) – tends to be on slight inclines only.
Unfortunately I don’t have the facilities (sloping drive) or the time due to current work commitments – goes against the grain but I’ll have to use a garage this time…!! :(
Any advice would be most welcome..!

A lot of your posts comprise of "no" Victor. You are getting grumpy in your old age.
Not much of a "can do" spirit, is it? ;D

Loosing drive is not good at all.... it may well be past the fluid change recovery stage!
Remove the little front sump first, easy job - you'll likely find remains of a thrust washer!

Thanks James,....well when I say loosing drive, it's more like a hick-up in drive.
Excuse my ignorance but is the thrust washer a common problem on these boxes...??

Extremely common, unfortunately. There is a replacement from the US that is much stronger. See the maintenance guide for changing it :y

...well I just had the fluid and filter changed on my box (incl flush) and pleased to say that there was no evidence of a thrust washer in the sumps.
Box is now much improved although it still seems to get a little confused when changing into top - can live with that though...!
Many thanks for all your advice.
For info, I can recommend Crucial Automatics Ltd in Titchfield (near Southampton) :y - excellent helpful service. Not the cheapest but still pretty reasonable and worth the extra.
Web site is http://www.crucialautomatics.co.uk/
The only problem is that I had a good look round the underside of my car and found that I have a blowing exhaust and the lower front wishbones (rear bushes) are showing signs of wear - may be why the car is wandering a bit these days..!!

Hi
best place I have found is Picadors, they have 2 places one in Sholing and the other in Chandlers Ford. yes they are both Vauxhall dealers but have great service I have found. When my father owned my car he had his auto box oil changed and 11 months later it started leaking they fixed it with no quibble and no charge. Also they have fixed my mum's Astra at very reasonable cost in the past.
We still have the Astra and my Omega MOTed there now.
On the flip side do not ever use Hartwells the Vauxhall dealer on The Avenue. There idea of sevice is akin to a certain burger chain.
Hope this helps
Mike
P.S. have you nticed how many Omega's are currently running round Southampton area ? I seem to seeing loads at the moment.

Now get the software upgraded just to smoothen it out a bit :)

This is a MUST. TheBoy did this on many Omegas (mine included) and in all cases it dramatically improved the box' behaviour.
