If I put an ar 35 on my td, will I be better off with an elite or Mv6 box.
My current box is fine at 133k but I tow a boat 1500kg & up a slip.
If I have to use the existing torque convertor is the lock up clutch going to fry. is the pump in the tc?
I was in a rental 525d and it was a lot better, I was thinking of chipping the wagon.

Go ahead and chip it as soon as you get the money. ;)

I run a chipped tractor, with an AR35.
Cruising 45-55mph is not ideal, and I tend to lock it in 3rd on 1st 8m of my daily journey (50mph limit)

how long to change out box & swop bell housing with lift?
Why bad crising 45-55.
Current ar 25 will only lock in 4th at 50ish.
Is your mileometer out? I get a mileage allowance.?????
Does bell housing bolt onto box or is it part of the casing?
Thanks.

From what I can gather, the AR35 is slightly higher geared. That means that the revs are around 1500rpm when it locks up in 4th, whish is below the boost.
The turbo starts to wind up just below 2k rpm, which is around 55mph. So that 45 to 55, if cruising, drops it into 4th, and the engine doesn't have the power that low down.

Is there a difference between elite & mv6? I was told that elite was higher geared!
What would you consider a fair price for ar 35.
Seeing as ar25 is fine at mo, would you leave it till it fails? But i suppose that'l knack the tc!

The TC will be fine - just as well, as you'll need to use your existing TC and bellhousing on the AR35 if you swap it. If you chip it, you'll knacker the box though.
The gearing is identical between (retail) MV6 and 3.0 Elites

Do you know what diff ratio is in the tractor, Jaime?
Just wondering if you could swap it for a shorter geared one?

Just managed 480 miles mid says 29 left, since yesterday.
Tc locks at 47 mph gentle throttle, unlocks at 45 1400rpm , sounds similar to ar 35, Where is there a list of ratios?

can't say till mon. don't think i'll get over 40 round here.
It does slightly over 60 at 2k so i guess somewhere between 1400-1600.

Locks up at c 48 near 2krpm drops down to just over 1,600rpm. seems fine btw 493mls with 67.6l -33mpg with roof rack fully laden ,scraped hitch twice on humps with self leveling?

Do it! Get a dragon performance box (adjustable) and an ar35 from the 3ltr (any).
If I crank my box up to the gigawatts and leather it I get low 20's :-[ Day to day I get 33-36 with it turned right down - but still very quick!
The oil pump is actually in the box itself AFAIK.
You basically put the car on axle stands,
unbolt the propshaft,
unplug all the sensors
undo the T/C from the peepe hole
undo the box, lower the ar25, bolt the ar25 bellhousing on the ar35 (easy job).
One thing that might be worth doing while the new box is off the car is replacing the thrust washer (theres a how2 on here) and replacing the neck seal.
You use your original T/C and loom.
Then refitting is reverse to removal.
It's a job that first time will take you 4-6hrs all in - absolute max.
Have 2 x trolley jacks for lowering the box from the car and be prepared to swear alot and grit your teeth...
Be worth it though! :y

Thanks for that. Now I'll see if i can bribe someone to do it for me. I'm a bit past slideing around on my back . Also I tend to loose dropped bolts in the gravel.

I think you'd still have a "hole", as that's down to the step between the ratios, but with lower overall gearing it might pull through it better.
