Title: Miles to the gallon
Post by: Terry_Seyforth on 28 November 2007, 20:09:59
Hi just wondering, I know these cars are thirsty, but could you tell me how may miles I should be getting to the gallon, I have worked it out that I am only getting about 17/18 miles to the gallon, around town, I have worked this out from my counter the one you can reset, I gather this is in miles or im in the s**t, I put £20 in and used the distance indicator which started on 32 miles left, put the £20 in then waited till it got back to 32 miles, the counter read 71/72 miles....
So with a 2.6 vs, what is the norm amout of petrol usually used, driving carefully.
thanks  :'(

That's pretty much what I get from my 2.5 auto with 138k on the clock. Does seem to double on the mways though.

agree its about right if auto.  If you have a manual its low, expect close to 30 if treated with care around town

Hi
I do about 6 miles to work and 6 miles home again, my old 2.0 auto averaged 22.2mpg and now my V6 is averaging 21.4mpg on same journey, and a bit more right foot is used in the V6.
Never really do any morways/dual carraigeways so can't say if either would do more for sure but I would expect both of them to improve on a run.

around town i can get early 20's, on a run early to mid 30's if i take it easy

mines a 2.5 auto

hit the loud pedal and i can easily lose 5-8 mpg off both of those figures

Check this (http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=phH9jJ7FuSBeEt5Enh48DSg&hl=en_GB&pli=1) out. It will give you loads of information about other members' cars.

If you want to add your info, just PM me your email address and I'll add you to the list of collaborators.

By the way, I tend to average between 26 and 29 mpg on day to day driving in my 2.2 Auto.

Running about as low as 15.5, short trips and lots of stop go

Cruising at a moderate speed - a LOT better, seen mile long instant consumption around 50

However this is on LPG, it was a bit better on petrol but that costs too much

Well thanks for all the response. happy it seems around the milage i should be getting, but  :'( it is a thirsty old boy.
Sacrifice consumption for comfort.
It drives lovely but you can feel the power behind the wheel.
It wouldnt be half as bad if I didnt find out someone had emptied my bank account through a hack on my computer, they left me £90 which was good of them and took £1800, enough of my sad story, just will have to push it for a acouple of weeks  :)
