Many thanks!

Previous owner said he just had the pads changed and went through the MOT no probs...
He said something about sensors but I wasn't paying too much attention ::)

Maybe he just said he did!! Low pads can and do pass MOT brake test!
If u are sure pads OK then maybe pad sensors breaked!!

Check that the sensor wire hasn't come out of the pad mate, I bought new pads myself when the "Check Pads" came up on mine, only to find when i removed the wheel that the wire had come out ::)
The sensors are only on the front pads (one each side). If the sensor wire is broken they are less than £10 from Vauxhall anyway :y
This link shows a picture of a front pad where the sensor pushes into.

We changed our pads with non-vauxhall ones which means the brake pad sensors are not used and because of this the brake pad warning is displayed. A friend told us to wrap the 2 sensor wires (on each sided) together and the warning should go off.Tried it and it didn't.
Unfortunately in your case you don't really know if the pads have been changed or not.
You could buy some Vauxhall ones and get them changed just to be on the safe side. ;)

disconnected ours by unplugging the sensor, sticking a paperclip in the sensor socket, wrap in tape, works perfectly.
No error message :y

How much are the genuine Vauxhall pads just out of curosity?
Thanks for all the replies people!

So how much are the pads to a trade club member?
Anyone near Hemel Hempstead have a Trade Club membership?

Oh dear! Yet more dis-information. Neither OEM nor pattern pads come with sensing wires fixed to the pads. (I know that Fords of the early 80's came with or without wires embedded in to the pads - maybe you had a Ford of the early 80's :-/) If you were to look through the many many repeated questions & their answers you'll find that the sensor wire(s) are completely seperate from the pads. One end clips onto the butterfly anti-rattle clip fixed to the pads & the other plugs in under the front wing. If you bare the wires to a 'used' sensor & short the 2 ends together it WILL fool the brake pad check system. Tried it and it DID ::)
Unfortunately in your case you don't really know if the pads have been changed or not.

How about checking them the old fashioned way and remove the wheel & have a proper look at both pads! That way you'll really know if they've been changed! :-?
The last time my low pad warning check was displayed I'd still at least half of each pad left.

That correct operation?

The sensor worked fine & worked as well as expected, however as with a lot of cars there is a lip at the edge of the disc where the pads don't quite reach the edge, so the unworn bit of disc wears through the sensor earlier than it would have done if the disc was new. There were miles of brake pads left (5000 IIRC ;) )

Without going outside to look ::) .... how many miles of pads are left at the back of your car? No sensors there. ;)

The warning should come up at about 2/3rds wear. Front pads shouldn't really be taken down much further.
It is possible to use an old sensor and short it out to to stop the message, but thats a bit of a bodge imho - why not just replace the sensor?
