Title: Sump Plug problems
Post by: MickAP on 13 December 2007, 18:44:38
Changed the oil on the estate (2.5TD) today but have a problem
Came to refit the sump plug and it just won't re-tighten properly seems it started stripping the threads.
Now when I came to remove the plug to drain down the plug was loose, so it seems like it was may have been like this on the last oil change, which was done on the main service not by me.
Anyway is this easily fixable or expensive and a new sump pan required. Can it be re threaded with a larger plug inserted.
It seems to be holding the oil in, but I will recheck it tomorrow, I don't want it to work loose though and start dripping.

And don't forget, if it's the Torx sump plug with the rubber washer, the torque setting is only 10 Nm.  :y

Well I checked the sump plug after a couple of days and it's ok and holding the oil in. So will leave well alone until next oil change, then see I can sort the thread out. Thanks for all suggestions.

I bought a pump out. Pela I think. Makes changing filter much simpler, given how often it needs doing.Cost c £40.  Pumps out the oil in the time it takes to change filter & o rings.
