Title: Power steering pump leak
Post by: Mike Collins on 27 November 2007, 20:46:01
Does anyone have any experience of leaking hydraulic pumps? My 2.5 has started to drop red fluid from the front of the block.
Fluid level is probably going down, but a bit early to be certain.
There is no sign of a leak from the pump spindle, only on the block face, it drips down and is then blown back along the sump pan. I can see no evidence of leakage from any of the pipes or unions.

Otherwise anyone like to sell a pump?

Have you checked the jubilee clips are nice and tight?

Look ok, no sign of fluid leakage down the pipes, only at the back of the pump.

So far.....

Update on steering fluid leak, replaced the suction hose and clips, now leaking badly.

It appears to be from the rear of the pump, only under load at a high rate.

I have removed and inspected the pump, the A/C compressor does not need to come off despite TIS.

Now refitted and still leaking, I can only guess the rear face has a bad seal.

Anyone have a 98 2.5 pump for sale?
