Guys
My wife has just broken down in the Omega!
She says that the EML was flashing but the clock and MFD were reset to date of 1997 and were dim.
Does a flat battery cause a lack of communication between Immobiliser and key chip?
AA on way out to have a look.
Thanks
Jonny

Flat battery will reset the display to original date ... an RDS radio station will quickly put it right !!!
The immobiliser will not be reset simply by a flat battery, it should work as soon as "new" power, either replacement battery or a jump start is connected.
EML flashing whilst trying to start is a sign of keyfob/immobilsor not communicating, and if you keep trying to start like that WILL flatten battery.
EML flashing when engine running is a sign of a fault code, engine should not be run until codes checked

Guys,
AA have jump started car, battery is indeed the cause of the breakdown.
I have no codes present as my laptop has vauxhall diagnostic software to clear any faults.
Thanks for help guys.

Guys
New battery installed, car started initially then when i switched off and on again, eml flashing.
following codes retreived:-
P1612 Immobiliser control module - no/incorrect signal
P1613 Immobiliser control module - no/incorrect signal
Is it time for a visit to my local vauxhall stealer for new keys and Immobiliser?
-
also retreived following codes:-
P1605 ECM Coding / AC Compressor clutch cut off relay - circuit malfunction

yeah id get them guys to check it out mate, be quicker as they will prob know the fault straight away..

Just been out to car and it starts first time when jumpstarted.
Whilst car is running, there is 14.3V to the battery and 12.8V when not running.
after a couple of starts using own battery, goes back to eml flashing and non starter.
I think either the immobiliser is faulty or there is a electrical fault somewhere.
Hopefully MarksDTM or Autoaddict will see this post and have an idea of how best to solve problem.
Dont want to go to Vauxhall stealer if can help it
Cheers

Sounds like camsensor problems to me, common fault on 2.2's.
As your in Nottingham, worth a trip to Marks, get him to TechII it to confirm.

Auto Addict, see fault codes as below - cam sensor was changed last september, could it be crank sensor or immobiliser unit?

If it was the immobilisor, then the spanner light would be on.
Can't help with the other fault codes, I'm afraid, I'm no technician, you need Mark or somebody with more experience to come online.
-
Auto,
Thanks for your advice, I have emailed Mark to ask if he will tech 2 for me!
It is the spanner light thats flashing, thought this tied in with the Immobiliser fault codes - manual says if EML flashes on start up the immobiliser cant connect with key chip!
Its just weird that once I am jump starting car, it starts straight away, once jump leads off it starts once and then EML starts flashing and battery then drains.
Battery reading 14.2V when engine running and 12.3 when not running.
Weird fault.
Thanks again

Still sounds like a faulty cam sensor to me, was the new one a gen. Vx?
-
no i dont think it was think it was around £23, the genuine ones for the Z22XE engine are around £45
Cam sensors are a real pain on the 2.2 for some reason, I have spent an absolute fortune repairing faults that always seem to relate to cam sensor.
Thanks
John

I think Vx brought out a replacement part. The new genuine ones seem more reliable.

Yes, they did. One was fitted to my Cavalier (2.0 16v) which I know is the older version of the engine and management system, but it is still a Siemens Simtec.
You will have to cut the old connector off the loom and do a bit of soldering to get the new loom connector on, which comes with the sensor. Touch wood, I have not had further problems, so far................ (It has been fitted for around 2 years BTW but my mileage is low at around 3 - 4k PA).
Hope this info helps

Guys,
I have taken the new battery off the Omega and placed the old battery back in and car started first time.
Kept switching on and off, no EML and car kept starting first time!
How wierd.
Will take new battery back for a refund as it's obviously cream crackered and not up to the job.
I will keep this post updated if I happen to suffer any further problems.
Thanks for help, forum invaluable as ever
