Title: Spark Plug Wells
Post by: mark.adams on 18 December 2007, 14:11:03
When the weather was a bit warmer i thought i'd change the spark plugs on the mig, so without any manuals or 'owt i went for the black strip with ecotec written on it, but on lifting it i could see pools of oil, so i put it back thinking 'oops wrong place'. :o
Just read the facelift 2.2 plug change guide and i WAS in the right place... :P
So... the oil?? rocker cover gasket?? would explain the very occasional misfire (although only does that on LPG).
Comments???

(apart from i can't believe you didn't know where the plugs were, you plank) ::)

when you say pools was it really a lot, across all 4 plugs??

Its not uncommon to get oil in plugs 2/3, because they are around the oil filler bit, its easy when filling to miss and for it to drip down into the wells.

well i lifted the black bit up and the rubbery bits that protrude downwards looked like they were dipped in oil.
 ;Dtechnical i know... ;D

cam cover gasket needs changing. Don't miss the O rings too. Nice easy job. Change the coil pack too if it looks iffy (I believe you can get the rubber ends, alternatively).

Spark Plugs (already Got those)
What breathers should i make sure aren't blocked to prevent gasket being blown again?

'Auto Addict' has done a good guide for the 2.2 breathers.
