Title: Where to get a release key for Alloy wheel cover
Post by: coldbeer on 20 December 2007, 14:33:20
Well I had my new car for six hours yesterday and the rear drivers side tyre burst on me  :( It was damaged in the wall so must have happened before I got it.

Anyway I need to get a release key for the Wheel cover which I don't appear to have. Is it best to just go to  Vauxhall dealer or is there anywhere else I should try first?

Cheers

You can sometimes free them with a pair of long nose pliers - or a carefully placed small punch and a hammer

Sorry I should have been clearer.

The breakdown guy got it off in a manner similar to what you suggested but I'd just like to have the proper bit of kit in case something similar happens in the future

hammer and nail does the job, try a scrappy if you are allowed to roam around cars.

You might be able to get one from Vx but will certainly need your security card (with the codes on), log book etc. - if they are available...  worth a call I would think.

Anyone know if they are all the same?

Well I;ve just rung my local Vauxhall. No mention of me needing to produce any docusments but they won't just sell the key it has to be part of a set with a new cover. £15.90 + VAT  :o

is it the 3 pin sort?

even though it's not a perfect triangle, they dont appear to be a unique fitment, i bought one off ebay cos my car also didnt have one, paid a tad over what most were selling for but it also had 4 brand new lock nuts with it for the covers, and the key fitted my existing ones, problem is i cant really part with it, unless you want a set of 16" early facelift GLS alloys :D

No !   You'll get 4 new "security" bolts and the 3 plonged thing to get the cover off...

Had the same problem about 6 months ago.
