Title: How to operate the  Aircon ?
Post by: coldbeer on 19 December 2007, 16:21:07
I've just picked up my car and it's the first Omega I have driven. Sadly the owners manual is missing so I'm having to work out what everything does by using my brain  :)

I've pretty much worked everything out except the correct way way to operate the Aircon (I've never driven anything with it before).

Can anyone hlep out a dumbass like me or point me in the direction of where I can get a manual?

Great site by the way I've already found the answers to quite a few questions I would otherwise have asked

Cheers

Does it have rotary knobs or digital climate control?
If it's digital, set Auto and the temperature you would like for each side.
It should then cool, dry and heat incoming air and distribute it for normal comfort. Make sure all the individual vent controls are open.
Pressing eco turns off the cooling, makes little or no noticeable difference to fuel burn but the interior steams up very easily.
I've never had one with rotary controls, but I imagine you set the distribution and temperature separately.

Enjoy.

Thanks for that.

It is rotary knobs with a button that has  symbol of what looks like a piece of snow which I assume switches the air con on.

Boy I sound dumb don't I.  ;D

Yep, press the snowflake and AC will come on. However it won't come on if it's too cold outside (around 4 degrees or less), or if there is a problem with the system such as the gas pressure being too low due to it needing a service.

Depends if you've got climate control or not. With climate, you can just set the temperature either side of the car and it will use the air con and heater as necessary to maintain it. If you press the "ECO" button it goes into an economy mode where the actual air conditioning compressor is disabled so it can only heat, not cool, the air.

Without climate, you normally have a separate button to enable air conditioning, and just use the temperature dials to set a comfortable temperature - summer or winter- as normal.

Although it may seem crazy to uee the air conditioning in the winter, it does have a strong drying effect on the incoming air so it's very useful for clearing condensation in the winter.

Thanks for the advice folks. I'll test it out in a little while.  :y

Then I just need to remove the old cassette player and stick in my mp3 CD player.

Just to clarify (I hope) further..

You appear to have aircon (rotary knobs) and not climate (ECC) (so you won't have the ECO button referred to).   The snowflake turns the ac on and off as you know.

I believe you can download a pdf manual from the Vauxhall web site.

Cheers :y

Useful advice about the pdf download (but what if coldbeer doesn't have access to a computer or the internet - you didn't think about that, did you  ;)).

I got my manual from eBay (I think I paid £4 inc postage) - they seem to come up quite regularly.  Also, I don't  know how much a VX dealer would charge - it might be just as cheap/convenient there, perhaps.

Welcome to the site, coldbeer

Hi

Did you spot the 'wink' smiley after the comment about him having a computer???

.. and I was just being friendly to a newbie on what was, I think, his 1st post.  Sorry if that isn't the correct protocol to say welcome in this area of the forum - as I said, I was just being friendly.

Happy Christmas all.

Alanfp - no probs, quick posts often miss the intent of the original poster, worry not....

As stated elsewhere, snowflake button toggles AC on/off.  Even when cold, aircon on tends to dry out interior quicker than AC off.  Worth an experiment to see what works for you.....   :y

Thanks again.

Sadly the pdfs on the Vauxhall site only go back to 2002.

I'll keep and eye out for one on Ebay
