Title: removal of hoses at heater matrix
Post by: alanfp on 22 December 2007, 12:35:51
Hi

I think I need to flush the heater matrix, as a number of other forum members have done.

I am now attempting the job..........

Firstly, can it be done without removing the whole wiper /scuttle assembly across the whole width of the car (please say 'yes')

Secondly, and more importantly, how do I remove the 2 white clips that hold the hoses onto the metal spigots protruding from the bulkhead. I've never come across them before.  Can they be removed without destroying them.

Thanks,

from a very cold forum member!

I think these are the two pipes your looking for and a guide how to disconnect them.

Right....depress the small tab on the connector and slide the colar backwards, rotate left and right a few times to un-stick the O ring and then pull....

It can be done with the scuttle cover still in place.

but (esp on v6) is much easier with scuttle removed for us mere mortals....

DONE!!!!!!

 :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) and  :-* if that's not too gay

I now have warmth.   I don't think I could honestly describe it as HOT air coming out of the vents, but it's 4 degrees out there and the car is nicely warm inside.

I am a bit surprised how successful the operation has been , because when I first put the mains hose onto the matrix the water seemed to flow through very easily.  And no debris came out, just a little brown water... no bits as far as I could see. I flushed it 3 times each way anyway.  Put it back together and it's sorted.

If I could buy you guys a drink via the modem, I would! Please accept my thanks in lieu, esp. Marks, Bruce  - and Matchless for posting the 'how to' previously.

BTW I didn't remove the scuttle, just loosened it a bit on the drivers side to give myself a couple of extra inches to play with.

Good man.

I'd recommend flushing the entire cooling system and using vx antifreeze - red - at a 50/50 mix
