Title: 2.5TD auto.. unresponsive acceleration
Post by: Muggins on 23 December 2007, 21:11:12
Friend of mine has recently purchased a 1998 Omega 2.5TD (Auto) the problem he has is that when either in Drive or 1st gear when he pulls off at a junction there is what can only be described as a 3 or 4 second pause with no revs before the car actually moves. When placed in Neutral and rev'd this is instant with no pause. Once the car is moving it drives fine, its just the standing start that is weird.
Anyone any sugegstions?

Also he's getting roughly 22mpg around town, is this right for a 2.5TD? As the 3.0 Omega Elite that he also owns gives him 17mpg lol

Any help/advice much appreciated, cheers.

The mpg is about right around town.

Is it an auto, or manual?

They aint the quickest off the line as you have to get about 2.2k rpm before the turbo spins up.  Chipping it can bring this down to just under 2k.  Being auto, you can't get the revs up before dumping the clutch...

aye.. the problem he has though is that the car doesnt even rev at all... when in Drive at teh end of a road he accelerates and the car does not rev at all for 3 or 4 seconds then the revs increase and the car moves... its weird.

Its like it has a major flat spot over tick over

its the first one hes driven but in my opinion it certainly doesnt appear to be, it goes like train once moving its just the initial pull off that is very very flat, after the 3 or 4 second pause the car pulls off fairly quickly. Its just very hard to trust when pulling out of juctions.

damn.

there is a definate lag on pull away, but not 3-4s.

check if the hose from turbo to intercooler, or intercooler to 'turbo diesel' plastic is ballooning under boost
