Ok, i'm now seriously pissed off. Fitted the new DIS today, it's a genuine bosch one and identical to the one i removed from the car. Started the car up and everything seemed fine, the miss seemed to have gone.
I drove the car for a few miles missfire free even at really low speed in 5th gear it all seemed well then just as i thought my problems were over it statrted missing again.
It only does it under load, at idle it's smooth as you like and if you rev the crap out of it in neutral there is no sign of the miss.
I'm really tearing my hair out with this now as i've no idea what else it could be. The plugs have all been changed as have the HT leads, the DIS pack was brand new so i doubt it's that.
When the car was first started it was fine, it was only after about 3 or 4 miles when it had all warmed up that it started again.
I 'm really hoping someone can suggest something else to look at with this car as i'm very veyr close to introducing it to a box of matches and a gallon of petrol.

It could be the cam sensor or less likely the crankshaft sensor just starting to complain, have you changed these. ::)
-
Neither of these have been changed. What are the symptoms of these failing?
-
Have you done a compression test yet?
-
generally, sensor issues will store a code readable with paperclip

I've just flashed out the fault codes and the only one I got was:
14
Which i believe is coolant temp low voltage, I don't suppose that would have anything to do with it.

Fix the sensor, then deal with any misfire after that.... ....the ecu trying to work around the sensor fault, which may itself cause problems

I take it the sensor in question is the one in the centre of the coolant brigde.
-
It is......and it makes some sense......it will result in rich running when hot......will be fine when cold and have little impact at full gun.

There are two versions of the sensor - one of the them is the same as the Senator used, the other is for later engines. I don't know the cut off dates, just that I bought the older sensor for my 99 V6 and it should have been the newer sensor.
