Title: oops what did we miss???
Post by: Omegatoy on 29 December 2007, 19:18:40
am presently upgradinga gls interior on a td estate(no not mine) to black leather and all electric windows etc etc, so the problem we have is have fitted and connected the rear window motors, no problem connected all the connectors up and got lights on all the switches etc fronts work fine but nothig at the rears? so am guessing that we have to either upgrade the main window controller? or fit a relay that allows the rears to work or maybe something else?  only other clue is the door lights in the new interior also dont work with the interior light so what would  that be?
I know a few people have dont the conversion so would be grateful for any advice

possibly
but we tried turning it on and off a few times so dont think its that, the donor car had  stood for a year before we stripped it so i guess the motors colud be stuck? got to admit it tried everything in the time we had but couldnt get a peep out of them so took the motor housings off to maually wind the windows back to closed position!! Graham, hi i have done thes conv and it was plug and play. The switch as jamie has said is where i would start and make sure that the  switch connectors are all pushed home properly. as to why the puddle lights are not working then check the plug at the bottom of the b piller has not come apart [ this will also stop the windows from working] but you have prob already done this. good luck mate. :y

Should be able to - would need to look at book of lies to see what power needs to be applied where...

if the rear switches are lighting up then you have power in the doors bud !! could be jammed motors !!  ;)

Depending on the configuration, Fuse 7 controls rear windows and rear courtesy lights...

that would be where the switches would be for heated seats... to either side of the cig lighter for def. Have them on my motor. So as an added bonus, pop down to the breakers, borrow some rear switches and there's an added extra for the car, keeping botties warm!

something worth checking is the plug at the bottom of the b post because when i fitted my electric windoes to my facelift one of mine would not work and it turned out that one of the conecters bent on pushing the new plug in and would not power up ( the switch lite up aswell) although it is unlikely on both doors but you never no HTH

HI
might be a long shot if you havent found it already, but you do need a neg on the motors to make em work just cos the switches are working dosnt mean you have a neg at the motor only means you have the 12v + from fuse 7 and as they are common linked might be worth checking as you have same issue on both rear. Also valid point about rear disable switch, if thats stuck open then nothing on rear will work but lights will still operate.
conections to motor on pre 2000 are ,1 is 12v+ straight from fuse 7, 2 is up, 3 is down and I think 6 is common with all window motors, being used as 12v all window closure from central locking. terminal 31 being ground.
hope it helps a bit

The rear window 0V connection is via the X13 adn X14 which are the B post connectors i.e. not in the door.

As for the fuse, later models use F35......early ones F7
