Just about to start the task of fitting revering sensors and wonders if anyone has any tips or hints that may come in handy.
I have read the how to in the maintainance section but I fear that there is a lot more behind the rear bumper of a facelift.
I think I am going to have to remove the bumper to drill and route the wires and just need clarification on the mounting bolts etc.
I'm ok with the screws in the wheel arches(well the two that are visible, one each side that is) and the push pins beneath but am having trouble finding the torx bolts inside the boot. Do I need to remove the trim panel just inside the boot or better still do you think I could leave the bumper in place to drill the holes and route the wires.

I didn't have to remove the rear bumper to fit mine.
I drilled the holes, then with a straightened out wire coat hanger, attatched the cable to it, then poked it through, bit fiddly, but got there in the end.

Thanks AA, where on the bumper did you position yours, same place as the one in the maint sect?
-
Looking for some too, seen some 4 sensor ones on fleabay £39.99 or there abouts.... the bumbers come off easy anyway if needed...
PLS keep the post going with your progress..

Yes mines got 4 sensors and a display which shows distance and position of obstacle.

I didnt take my bumper off either........did same as AA, but used a long posidrive to get the wire thro the foam behind bumper......getting the wires into the boot were easy for me........ive got an air vent in the spare wheel well.

I suppose the air vent is only fitted on the estate ::)

If you can get someone to help, it's a bit easier.
One under the bumper to catch the end, and one poking through.

Mmm could be tricky today unless wifey wants to lay under the car ;D

Errr No........Its coz i have an lpg tank in there......and if I get a leak on the tank, as lpg is heavier than air.......it escapes thro the vent and doesnt fill the car up with lpg gas ;)

Ahh gotcha, silly me........ :-[

If you remove the plastic trim inside the boot on the slam panel then you will find a grommit.....you can pass the wires through it.
The reverse light wiring is just forward of the spare wheel on the saloon.....and I mounted the controller on the metal plate there to (which is where the orginal fit controller is fitted)
The wifes just popped out in the car so I cant measure the sensor position but, I put mine in the same place as they were fitted from the factory.

Cheers Mark, all fitted now and working perfectly :y
A few small variations on the maint guides:
There are two trim pins under the bumper holding it on.
The screws in and under the wheel arches are in fact torx bolts/screws.
I had to remove the bumper as the polystyrene would not let me feed the wires through at all.
Took a while but mostly because I had to keep offering the bumper up and removing again so I could adapt the polystyrene so the sensors and wiring were not fouling on it.
All in all though I am well pleased as is the better half who drives the miggy more than me anyway :y

Pleased to hear you got yours working,Alexandjen.
I have had what can only be described as anightmare with the set I bought. After reading lots of write ups decided to buy the Cobra 4 eye system from a firm in Canvey Island.Got a fair price so decided to do the fit myself as couldn,t be that difficult. To start with I took off the rear bumper as during the course of fitting the sensors I wanted to replace the long chrome trim which got bent by a tow bar in a car park. The bumper came off easy and armed with a drill fitted the eyes and got all back inplace.Feed the 4 wires up through the number plate light wire hole and grommet and then connected each in turn to the control module. The unit had a feed wire which needed connecting to earth and another into the reversing light switch wire into the boot lid.So far so good!!!! The last 2 wires went to the buzzer which I positioned behind the rear seat corner pad.
As the instructions advised to reverse and stop approx 50cm from wall and a 2 beep[ would sound..then wait approx 100 seconds for the eyes to register and become set then all would work.It then advised that a "loop blue wire"should be cut and each end taped.I followed the instructions to the letter and despite retracking my steps I could not get the unit to function..it would only beep twice with the blue wire joined and continous with the blue wire cut.
I contacted the supplier and they were very helpfull and said it sounded like a faulty control module and they would replace it.Th e new one arrived just before Christmas and I decided to refit it.
The original problem still remains where by you either get just a 2 beep to advise function or with the blue wire cut a continuos beep.I again retraced my steps and found all to be as per fitting instructions.I again contacted the supplier who advised that I could take the car to them in Canvey Island and pay for one of their fitters to try and rectify..so at present I have 4 fairly unobtrusive rear sensors in my rear bumper...but no reversing system.
Would be curious to know what system you bought and if anybody else has had a similar experience...they don,t seem difficult items to fit so now looks likeI have a trip to Canvey (deep joy ) in 2008.

Hi mate, I fitted these..........

Sorry to here about your problems, I can't work out why a wire would be supplied only to be cut and both ends taped up?
There was very little set up on mine, basically select reverse and it beeps once to let you know it is armed and then once you get within 1.6m of an obstacle it starts to beep, then gets progressively faster until within 0.2m when it changes to a continuous beep.
Mine also has a display which gives you distance readout and position of obstacle, i.e left, right or centre.
Hope you get yours sorted quickly in the New Year. John

If these reverse aids have a screen, which I assume is generally fitted up front, ala BMW factory fit, is there not a temptation to be looking at the screen rather than over your shoulder at where you're actually going? :-/
-
Andy B..in hind sight I think it was easier to just go back and trust your judgment..like the sat nav that tells you to go one way but you know you should be going the other..modern gizmos just make you feel safer ????or in the case of my reversing sensors..well thats another story..Happy New Year All

Don't often look over my shoulder anyway just use the mirrors most of the time, to used to driving trucks and vans I suppose :y
