Title: Vauxhall brakes / Discs versus pattern parts
Post by: omegacdx on 02 January 2008, 13:22:26
Its about time for new discs/pads all round on my 1997 2.5 V6

Is it worth getting Vauxhall pads and discs or using 'pattern' parts?

Do the VX ones stop you any better or last longer?

I could probably fit them myself but frankly I really cant be bothered so I will let my local garage get dirty and cold.

Thanks

I would go original.  There are stories of pattern ones warping.   You can get a combined kit (for front only??) on Vx TC .

Don't forget you will likely need a pair of wear sensors too - difficult to remove without destroying them.

Thanks mate....probably a good idea to use genuine parts

I might take out a second mortgage and let my local Vauxhall garage do the job

Do Vauxhall have a 'Rapid Fit' thing like Ford do????

Don't know about rapid fit sorry.

But changing pads and disks is really easy (although granted it is safety critical, so if unsure best left to someone who knows what they are doing).  The only fiddly thing is if doing the rear you will need to reset the handbrake.

i have used mintex discs and pads on my omega with no problems (two years) i now have a trade card so if i do need to replace i will go genuine vauxhall, only got the mintex at the time (from ebay) because they where cheaper than originals by about £20.

I suppose on thinking about it pattern parts are made to a pretty high standard these days........

I'll see how much money the wife will let me have  :y

I'm going to replace all 4 discs and pads, they should last for a few years hopefully

I nearly fell of my chair, pattern parts are made to a price, as is most stuff, but you are NOT saving money with pattern, they will not last as long or be as good.

Quite a few members here have pattern brakes, and they are appualing. fit GM!

With TC, i fitted brand new GM discs and pads to my 2.2 for £66, made a huge difference!

Easiest way is to join Autobahnstormers.  The saving on your brakes will more then pay for the membership in one go.

What he said, think it may have gone up now to around £75 for the set, but you get discs and pads for that.

We also have a guide showing them being fitted to my car...

If you need an exhaust too, you can save almost £200 on trade!

I have pattern ones on MV6.  I'd forgotten how crap they are until today (haven't used the MV6 for weeks).

Go genuine.
