Title: exhaust manifold

is there an easy way of getting access to change the exhaust manifold on a v6,drivers side one i think is cracked,any help would be grateful. ;)

You'll need to remove the coolant transfer pipe that runs along the manifold, but otherwise it's not a bad job at all

Check the manifold carefully, V6 ones rarely crack compared to the 16v ones.

Oh, and always use genuine metal multilayer gaskets - NEVER pattern composite ones. They don't last and you will be doing the job again Very soon.

would you say its the gasket between manifold and head then as i changed the downpipe to manifold one which made no difference,only does it when its cold tho,goes away when hot

The gasket is the likely suspect, but you'll need to remove and inspect to be sure.

Before taking anything apart though, do check that the EGR wiggly pipe is secure at both the valve, and the manifold itself, using a 24mm spanner...

If you DO remove it, give all the studs a good spray with plus gas first, to try and minimise the chances of any breaking off.

so it can be done with the engine in place then,i should have checked it before i fitted the engine,as it was like that when i took it out of the donor car,but i thought it was the downpipe gasket,foolishly,lol

Both can be done with engine in situ, contrary to haynes book.

However, passenger side requires removal of the RH engine mount and engine moving over a tad.

Both sides are considerably easier to do with engine out / head off, especially if you have to rethread any studs.

Remember - the torque for the manifold studs is 25nm, no more :)

thanks for that,thats a job for a dry wknd then,then it just leaves the windscreen for the mot,damn frost,lol
