Just finished replacing the cam cover gaskets, cleaning breathers etc...
Yeah I know I started this weeks ago but what with Christmas in between and the 3 days of oblivion at new year etc..
Anyway, I have found a left over o-ring on the workbench - it must be off something - either the intake bridge / plenum / any other bits I dismatled over the past 2 weeks. It is quite distinctive because it's green and about the size of a one pence coin but I have no idea where it should go. :-/
Anybody help?
Dave

The bin? and pretend you've never seen it?
Or the box of odd thingys that we all have in the garage somewhere in thre vauge hope that one day you might actually find out what it does.
Other than that - no sorry. Haven't got a clue.
-
;D The bin sounds like a good idea. ;D
I remember when I was a lad (long time ago) watching my dad repair his car. He always had a handful of bits left over when he finished. Didn't seem to make any difference to the car :y

Lol.....thats an aircon O ring and they are used in all the joins.....probably dropped by somebody who worked on the aircon some time ago and landed in the camcover.
So yes, pop it in the bin.

Just sometimes, the stupid answer is the right one LOL

Yep. If it's all working ok, stick it in the "Bitz 'n' Bobz" pot.
Whenever I do any mechanical work, I'm guaranteed to end up with a couple of "Wot the 'ell is this ?" components .
I thought I recognised it, but I was thinking of the top seal on one of the pushrods on my Hardly Movinson.

Marks DTM has got it bang on...Aircon o-ring for defo.
Now I remember seeing green o-rings when I swapped the condensor over from my Elite to my newer CD (Darned thing had become porous after 86k on the clock, The Elite with 230K was fine !).

Thanks Guys!
Thanks again Marks DTM, I haven't touched the aircon so it was probably in amongst the slush around the cam covers some where.
I'll put it away in the box marked "just in case" - if the meegas still OK in a couple of weeks I'll bin it.
Cheers
Dave

If your going to bin your meega for the sake of a green O ring PM me first. :D

I remember when I restored my blue Monza I had abox of bits left over :o The thing to remember though is if there small ish bits then they're not so important whereas if they're big bits of metalwork then they're more important. Generally. Ish ;D
Humpy
PS My dear old Dad used to say he was convinced that the car manufacturers put these useless pieces into cars just to confuse us amateur mechanics :y

The worrying bit is that garages all over the country are full of bits-and-pieces left out of customers' cars... my view is that if the manufacturer put it there, there must be a reason to it... I kicked-up a fuss at Vx after they did my cambelt, because two of the plenum dust caps were missing. They looked at me as if I was off my rocker for complaining about it, but promised to order new ones and let me know when they arrive (which they did). Last April when I did the cam covers I found one of the old missing dust caps under the plenum...

..hopefully the other one hadn't gone down one of the manifold ports.. :o
guess you'd know by now!

;D ;D ;D
o-ring in the bin - not the meega... it's up for sale!
By the way... I found where the green O-ring actually came from - The throttle valve potentiometer where it fits to the throttle housing. B1oody thing has been niggling at me all day so I went out tonight and started to take the plenum to bits again - result! :y

That should be a black one.....but if it fits!
Green ones are aircon.....got a jam jar full of them and they fit in the quick release aircon couplings as per the one above the 2-4-6 bank.
