Title: Good Old Mayo Story
Post by: Danny on 13 January 2008, 15:02:39
got some sludge in the filler cap, dipstick is clear though, after having a read through it looks to point towards oil cooler

all i wanna know is the cost i should expect to pay to have it put right, and what else should i have looked at at the same time which could be "connected" or affected...

i dont mix well with engines but my mate runs a garage, tis the 3.0, thanks in advance

if you just have mayo on the oil filer cap on a v6 is just condensation take it on a good run and it will clear as i bet you do short trips in the car.

oil cooler will be brown goo in the header tank

It might be worth uncliping the filler cap and clean out the sludge then do an oil and filter change useing Vauxhall semi synthetic :y

this would be VX own 10w 40 semi synth or can i use any reputable 10w 40 semi synth?

by the way, more photos in the gallery

Use vx semi synth as it is great value and a cracking oil, which seems to resist the mayo build up that many other oils suffer from. :y

In the cold weather Omegas do generate a bit of mayo on the filler cap unless you do long journeys all the time.

How much mayo.

Vx own semi synth seems a little less prone to some other oils to this if its just short journies

there was none in coolant expansion tank, and i took it down a dual carriage way earlier with a mate in it, drove about 40 miles, when i got home the mayo was gone...... is that a good sign?

i should mention it's been stood for 4 days before today and wasnt the main car from the previous owner
