For some reason my windscreen wipers have decided they want to park in the middle of the screen instead of along the bottom of the windscreen they are pointing up the the high heavens :-/
The strange thing is they operate normally otherwise, e.g. the sweep area is perfect.
The local dealer tells me its the whole wiper unit, and its needs replacing (£250) :o anyone offer a second opinion?

May be worth taking the arms off when it's parked mid-screen and re-position them in the correct place.
Taking the arms off will need a windscreen wiper puller tool as these things can seize solid over time. I got mine from Machine Mart for about 8 squid. It doesn't look that strong a tool, but it worked well. A drop of releasing oil a short time before attempting removal may make things easier.
Not worth trying to lever them off with anything else as it won't take much force at the wrong angle to damage the wiper mechanisim.

are they only parking like this upon switch-off?
if so, repositioning them on park would mean they'll travel wrong, do they travel off the side of the screen and only stop mid screen or do they still wipe the correct area when running?

The wiper motors are generally decent, so if it is fubar, consider getting one from scrappy/breakefrs

Bo11ocks! If you remove the complete unit from behind the scuttle, you'll find that there's a small plate between the motor & the actuall wiper mechanism that makes the rotory motion of the motor to a backward & forward motion. You'll find a V shaped mark on each that should be pointing to each other ..... >< If you slacken of the plate on the motor (it'll probably already be slack - hence your problem ;)) & realign the marks.
