Title: auto gearbox problem
Post by: bob.dent on 14 January 2008, 11:47:55
I had similar problem a few months but then was ok for a while but its reared up again. When selecting a gear, the selector lights light up like a Christmas tree. When this happens I get 2 warning lights - the TC light and car/spanner symbol and the car goes into limp mode.
However, sometimes the selector lights flicker but then revert to normal and the gearbox is fine.

Could this be bad contacts in the gearbox selector which is somehow telling a sensor there's a problem or could it be more serious?
I'm taking it for a diagnostics check tomorrow but was wondering if anyone has come across this problem before.

If the selector lights come on like a christmas tree then it's a selector switch / selector switch wiring problem for sure.

Have you driven through any floods recently?

No floods, only heavy rain.

Sounds like it's water ingress
Mine did that, admitedly following my having driven into (but not out of) flood water

Selector switch.

Now, I happen to have a spare in the garage.

Are you coming to Timbuks next month?

Ah, do you now? That's handy :)

What's going on at Timbuk's? I must admit I haven't checked the Meets section so best I go and look as I hadn't planned to but I'm sure I could make it. 'Spose that'll mean digging the barbie out again! ::)
