Hello All,
I've searched the forum for this, but can only find wet carpet problems on the passenger side.
Both scuttle drain holes are clear, but the drivers side footwell is soaking wet.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Pete.

Hi Pete
I hope it is not the heater matrix leaking as this can cause the problem. Is the water normal rainwater or does it appaer to contain antifreeze ?
I am sure someone more knowlegable than myself with have other suggestions.
Mike
Thanks in advance,
Pete.

Are you losing coolant?
I had a drip from the front right corner of the headlining on my old Omega - I think it was coming from the sunroof drain. It stopped after a while although I never resolved it.
-
Hello There,
Coolant level is fine, headlining feels dry.
I've just pulled back to carpet to find soaking wet underlay type material that has been gaffa taped back together, so this must have happend to the previous owner!
I've got that drying now, and have wiped the floorpan dry, but can't find any obvious signs of ingress.
Will keep you posted!
Pete.

Oooh, forgot to mention, checked the pipes to the heater matrix, whilst the engine was running with the heater on hot, they were dry too.

has it had a replacement windscreen - might be leaking at base...
-
I had an Astra once that leaked into the footwell from the inner wing area - drain points in the wheel arch were blocked.
If you're not losing coolant it won't be the heater matrix.
Maybe worth giving the car a good shower with a hosepipe (esp around obvious points like windscreen or sunroof..) and see if you can find any drips?

Mine was blocked sunroof drain
Poked a stiff cable down & cleared it
(Then I drove into a flood & filled all 4 footwells with water! :-/)
-
Hmmm,
Thankfully it's been raining all day here, so I have been able to track down the leak to somewhere behind a grey control box with loads of wires going in and out, just to the right of the go faster pedal. The box doesn't look that easy to remove.
Can anyone think of a reason it would come in near there??
Thanks,
Pete.

Pop the scuttle cover off in the engine bay and make sure all the cable (loom, throttle etc) grommits are in place.
-
Scuttle off, seems to be one grommet with a few wires going through it, all secure, and one with the bonnett release cable, again secure.
Is it ok to disconnect the cables from the grey control box to the right of the go faster pedal, as the main wetness seems to be behind there.
Thanks for your help folks,
Pete.

Do you have a sunroof?
Because if you do, I had a similar problem on the passanger side where the water was seemingly coming in low down & dripping out at the bottom of the glove box
Eventually I discovered that, because the drain from the roof was blocked, water was getting in & running down the A pillar behind the trim & eventually finding it's way out behind the glove box
This could be happening on the driver's side making it look as if there is a problem lower down

Thanks Pitchfork,
Just had a look at that, managed to poke a bit of wire down it, went for about a mile but seemed to end up in the sill somewhere.
Have managed to get the grey control box off, the spongey stuff behind that is completly sodden, so I'm definately in the right area, trouble is it's not easy to get off, too many things bolted through it!

It does seem to go on for some way!
Did you try pouring a small amount of water into the sun roof gully?
If the drain was clear, water would drip out somwhere under the car & if nothing else verify that the problem (if it was that) no longer existed
If you can get the car under cover you could try a hair drier on the damp material to dry it out. I was lucky in that I was able to leave mine in summer sunshine with all of the windows open to dry naturally which was fortunate because I had also driven into flood water and filled all 4 footwells with water
Good luck

Yep, poured some water in to sunroof gully, eventually it came out under the car.
How do I tell if the windscreen is sealed properly, as that seems to be the only thing left now. I don't know if it has ever been replaced, it has GM printed on the corner if that helps.
Thanks,
Pete.

Oh, hope you get this sorted mate. Tis the worst thing, on a modern car as well! Our estate has a wet passenger side floor in the rear and still hasn't been sorted!
A dear aquaintance Mr McBurger suggested at one time ours could be a blockage in the drain hole from the air-con condensor (which lives near the heater matrix in the middle, behind the dash). Never did find out though.
The sound deadening stinks as well :-[
-
Thanks,
I've taken the sound deadening out and it is sat in my house, nice and dry, at the moment I've got a couple of bin liners under the carpet, to stop that getting wet!
The water is definately comeing down right in the corner where the A pillar meets the bulkhead, I just can't work out where from!
Pete.

Not the sun-roof drain then??
-
Doesn't look like it, but I might try again if the rain ever stops and I get a chance to dry the car out!
-
I'm in Leeds right now & it isn't raining (but I bet it is down south stil!)
-
I have a similar problem myself. Have posted on here before but only got a few replies.
I have'nt done sunroof eubes tet but I did replace seal at base of windscreen.
It covers base of screen & top of scuttle panel.
It only cost about £11 or £12 from vx from memory. I am also one for the screen leaking theory. I notce that condensation trails start from the bottom right of the screen. But I know screens are a bugger to diagnose without some major stripping of trim

Thanks Jez,
It's been raining here for tha last 3 days, so I haven't had a chance to do anything, but when I went to drive it tonight, I must have wiped around 5 litres of water from inside the windows!
I think I need to wait for some clear weather to dry it out before I look further!
This is so annoying!
Pete.
