When my 2.0 16V is warmed up, at 70 mph there is what I can only describe as a fluttering feeling.
It's not really hesitation as as soon as I plant it, it goes away.
It's there whether I have cruise engaged or not.
Also from cold my fuel pump I think makes a hell of a racket for about 90 seconds after the car has started.
Have I got impending doom and if so what ?

Is this hell of a racket from the tank area or the passenger side front wing?
If the latter its the air injection pump.

It's difficult to tell, I think it's coming from the drivers side rear.
It reminds me of the noise my Sierra 4x4's pump made as it was dying (Incidently in my opinion the last great car Ford ever made was the Sierrra)
But it's only when completely cold and it goes away after about 90 seconds.
I'm thinking perhaps fuel filter and or pump ?
Might be causing this fluttering

No, thats not a big problem. Bearings in SAI pump going. If it is annoying, unplug the motor (its a device to get cats up to temp quicker, and is removed from later engines anyway)

Worked out how to do photos, (you wouldn't think I was a Network admin would you?)
What is this part on a 2.0 16V. The bit in between the vacuum chamber thingy and the bonnet switch ? As you can see the brocken connector is hanging above it on the vacuum pipe.
would this cause erratic idle ?

The air injection pump on my 2.0l used to create a racket on starting from cold, but always stopped at exactly the same place on my journey, after about 2 minutes. It eventually packed up altogether and made absolutely no noticeable difference. I never bothered to look at it.

P0100 there is not present

P0100 Mass Air flow sensor..
Also describing your hesitation..
But MAFs rarely fail totally..Check the sockets , un-plug and plug again (when the engine not working)

Check for any air leaks in the intake ducting and vacuum system as well. Any unmetered air getting in will cause the MAF to misread, thus casting doubt on the sensor itself.
This would result in lean running, which does tend to manifest itself as slightly hesitant running.

Agreed..generally leaks are from the o-rings under the plenum as they become old and tiny..
forgot to add if the performance of the car changes with temperature
changes means, MAF is not in good condition..

You guys are amazing, thanks.
Unplugged the MAF sensor and blew on both ends, plugged it back in
FIXED !!!!
I know it's fixed because my car usually stalls about a dozen times on the way in to work in the morning (I was going to clean the idle valve but hadn't connected the two faults) and since I did this, it hasn't stalled once !
Now all I need to know is what the broken part in the picture above does.

the part in picture whats broken bud is a soleniod valve !! not sure what it does on 2.0 but on my 3.0 it controls the dual ram system !!
