i have a 96 v6, i assume there the same keyfobs, it tells you how to do it in user manual, because if you press the buttons too many times away from the car it re-sets itself and you have to reprogramme them to the car.
I assume this typr of programming will work with a fob that didnt come with the car, only thing is my user manual is in the car, so unless someone with more knowlege than me (not very hard!) beats me to it, i will post the re programming instructions in the morning, might be worth a try!

A 95 car will be borderline between IR and RF.
Manual states resync procedure for existing RF fobs.

Sorry for the mistake, its a 2.5 v6. There is a red sensor near the sunroof switch if this is any help

The manual should state how to program iirc.

i dont have sufficient experience of ir ones. didn't think they needed tech1 to program

Battery in the remote?
-
if not the battery then perhaps there is a possibility it cannot be done if it wasn't supplied with the car
-
I have taken the battery out and put it back in again, as i thought it may have the code from the other car on it as i got thr remote from ebay and have followed the manual but nothing doing

The remote you have bought is IR, and not RF?

Its the one thats on a separate fob to the key

thats RF, so wont work if your car is IR

The seperate fob only works on cars post 97 i think....
94-96 was IR... then it moved to a seperate RF fob.
98 RF was integrated into the key

Switch from IR to RF happened in model year 95.
IR types were integrated in key.
RF types from 95 to 99 were either a seperate fob or integrated in key, depending on age. Both RF types in this range are compatible with each other, assuming same make (virtually all appear to be Megamos).
RF types from 2000 (facelift) have 3 buttons, and are key integrated.

Thanks for that guys, i will look out for a ir type and not a RF one. If anyone wants a free ir remote as it's no good to me now, mail me.
Cheers

before you give away (yes please!), can you post up piccie of working fob, and the replacement one?
IR types seem to come up rarely on ebay.

If anyone has one for sale please let me know.

Thinking about it my dad had a 94 2.5td cdx and his had the red sensor next to the sunroof switch and the remote built into the key with one big button in the middle to lock/unlock and a little one on the side of the key.
