Just as I turned into my road the engine cut out...just like the ignition being turned off.
Engine spun over perfectly but not the slighest hint of firing. No smoke, no funny smells, no leaks. All levels fine and no oil in water or water in oil.
All fuses seem fine, petrol in tank. Called the AA but when they arrived the car started on the button, idled perfectly. Again no smoke, smells or leaks.
AA geezer said unable to trace any fault as no EML on.
Any ideas?

Could be crank sensor have you done the paper clip test.

Well, just been for a drive, about 6 to 8 miles on dual carriageway and A-roads and all good.
No EML, no rattles, no smoke.
Can someone give me a reminder on paperclip test please.

Thanks fella,
I cant find the table of codes to faults
Is the search option working ok?
-
The search function is not working. I think the code is 19 for the crank sensor.

Try this

Well paperclip test just gives code 12.
I'll keep all limbs and digits crossed and hope it was a one off :-?
-
It will go wrong again - definately crank sensor - mine was like this

Thats how a problem with my 'ex' xj6 started. It was the crank sensor and began intermittently. One day it would be fine the next morning no go.
As a cure I took out the sensor (if you have access to another vehicle for a day) cleaned the sensor and the multipin connector and put it on an old speaker magnet overnight. Put it back in and had no more problems - well not with the sensor that is lol
I'm now converted to Omegas though

I'm off work Friday, anyone fancy helping me?

Oh how I love spending my booked days off under a car
-
Actually come to think about it,
I was wondering to myself why the rev counter the other day was showing 3500 but only doing 75-ish mph. 3500revs usually equals around 85mph on my car
-
The symptoms sound like crank sensor, but the lack of fault codes dont :-/
Certainly carry a spare in the boot anyway (as all V6 owners should!)
