I've noticed that in the footwell, the left hand side near my leg gets really warm especially when the heater is on, there doesn't seem to be any other symptons, anyone any ideas?
-
This is probably subjective, but the transmission tunnel does get pretty warm, a lot of the air ducting is in the section by your left calf.

Well my auto gearbox isn't working at the moment, having to shift it manually so don't know if that is causing it, anyone else? :-/

The pipes to the heater matrix run through the left hand side of the driver's footwell but I've never noticed any heat from them.
I don't suppose your leg gets wet as well? ;)
Could also be air leaking from the side of the heater unit instead of getting ducted to the vents perhaps? Have a poke around and see what you can see under there.

Nope, nice dry legs, just very hot, felt toasty through my trousers and leather boots.
-
Could be the air distribution flaps stuck open in the footwell, causing the hot air to blow through...worth checking the details below, you never know.

My transmission tunnel gets warm, mostly from heater ducts I think, but also defo from gearbox itself...

Sorry. Just thought there might have been a leak from the heater matrix pipes. :-[

When you find out what's causing it, please let me know, cos my heater gives out virtually no heat at all ;)
On the recent frosty mornings I'd have given anything for a hot leg (ideally 2, but 1 would have been an improvement); mind you, when my left leg got too hot, I could have driven with my legs crossed, using my left foot to operate the pedals, till that got too hot .....
sorry, this isn't helping you is it! Does it still get really hot with the heater turned down?

Just a thought. There's a bit of ducting just above the cover under the dash in the footwell that delivers air to the footwell vents. If this has come adrift at the heater end, it may be that the air is all coming out in one place rather than being distributed around the footwell.
If you remove the footwell cover (3 plastic clips that turn anticlockwise 90 degrees IIRC) you will see the plastic duct.

I'l have a poke around at the weekend, finish work to late to do in the evenings, I'l let you know what I find out.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it, at the meont only when I accelerate I hear a small whining, I would says sounds like air coming out of a small hole but I could be wrong, also there seems to be more heat in relation to the faster I'm going.

Speed related temperature could be incorrectly connected vacuum pipes in the engine, This has been seen before, there is a map of the pipes in maint guides
