Dont know if anyone has got any suggestions. Have tried to remove the plug this afternoon.
Firstly got under and had a look at it to see its already extremly worn as if someone has already had a go at it. Tried using a socket to find it just slips due to the wear, so tried a spanner which just appears to slip/spin. Finnaly got a set of mole grips and again these dont appear to grip. Found that I could not get the jaw fully around due to the lip above. Ended up giving up as wanted to finnish changing the rocker cover, oil & filter change, and new plugs.
Anyone got any suggestions on how I can get this out????

If it's the level plug in the right hand side, had the same problem.
Had to resort to an air chisel to shock it into movement, there is very little metal to get a grip on.
Other alternative is to remove the sump, at least you will get to change most of the fluid.

Yes the plug is on the drivers side. Was expecting it to jolt loose but that was not to happen. Saying that Im not even sure if I was turning in the right direction. I was turning anti clockwise??

no. there are tools for rounded bolts. Also, if you het sump off, you may be able to heat and losen. But always worth a bit of plusgas on it before doing anything else

Just had a text from my brother whos a mechanic telling me to bring it to his tomorrow moring. He says he will get it out one way or another. He works as a dismantler at a breaker yard. He said I'm used to old heaps of junk :o
See if I can pursuade him to do my manifold while Im there lol ::)

i had the same issue when i did mine.......
ended up welding a 12'' bar to the plug and undoing it that way....rough but effective

I have some special sockets designed for removing rounded bolts.
They just tap on, and "grip" the head of the bolt as you turn anticlockwise. I have NEVER had one fail.
I've even used them to remove completely round things, like camshaft sprocket bolts, when the insides have been stripped.

Well an update on the rounded bolt!!
Brother to the rescue again, managed to force a 1/2" socket over the top and hey presto it was off in under 5 seconds. To our amasement though, as soon as he removed the plug oil started pouring down his arm and all over the floor. This is whilst the car was still jacked fully off the floor leaning towards the passenger side. It was way over filled. Dont know how they managed to get that much in.
Luckily my local parts store had a replacment sump plug so replaced the plug, drove home jacked it up on my drive as its completly flat and drained the excess off. Then jacked up filled it up again and lowered. Did this 5 times to try and flush the box a little. Also going to do the same procedure next weekend once Ive driven it a while.

Was the engine running when the plug was taken out?
If it wasn't - then it will come out of the box, and doesn't mean it was over filled...

Yes!
You also need to select each gear for 10 secs or so with the engine running when you refill it.

Ok, so I need to do it again tomorrow by leaving engine on jacking up and topping up. Then I take it you select the gears whilst still on the jack one by one before lowering to the floor and letting the remainder run out. Is this correct??

Take it for a drive long enough to warm it all up. Leave engine on, gear in P
Jack up drivers side only, support on stand.
Undo filler, pour in oil until it starts to flow out, then fit filler.
Foot firmly on brake, with all bodies clear of the car, select some gears.
Undo filler, then slowly lower to the ground.
When oil stops coming out, refit filler.
Job's a goodun.

Thanks James will do that as soon as I get home from work tom, should only take about half hour.
Thought it was just a case of getting the level right, never realised it had to be running to get the right level ::)

Yep, the TC etc is spinning, hence a lot of the oil is "up in the box" when driving - yet the sump still needs to maintain normal level under these conditions :y

yes, engine running, and gearbox hot ;)
also consider oil expands as it breaks down ;)

from my memory I got about another 2 litres in after starting it up, so absolutely necessary!

Well I checked the level again with the engine running and got just over a litre extra in. Sound much happier!!
Also whilst up in the air with the engine running I noticed fluid dropping onto exhaust and evaporating. Jacked other side of car and had a closer look but could not see where it was coming from. For some reason decided to see what happened with interior fan on full and water poured out all over the floor. Turned off and it was back to a drip. Ive noticed recently that it was using a bit so Im guessing that one of the hoses to the heater matrix must be leaking. Any suggestions welcome??? :-?

Is it coolant or clear water? If coolant it could be the HBV failing (Is the coolant level droping in the expansion tank?) if clear it could be off the aircon

Yes the water level in the coolant tank is dropping. Couldnt tell what colour it was as it was pitch black other then the torch

Sounds like HBV or as you say, Hoses to / from matrix. If it's loosing it that quickly I think you should be able to see what's happening in daylight.

Coolant will have a distinct smell and sweet taste. Water/aircon condensate is water.
