Hi fellas,
Its good to be back.
Before i went away and left my meega in the hands of someone I trust I noticed that the aircon wasnt working at all. I traced it to the consenser which I noticed wasnt engaging. There seems to be coolant in the curcuit after pinging the fill valve and getting a 'pffft' (not scientific I know but...)
Now I tried it with the eco pressed and depress but I have also had a dodgy switch since I got the car in that the light didnt work but the switch did so I will have to eliminate the switch as a potential cause.
My question is how difficult is it to change the condenser myself and what precautions will I have to take. Should I just bite the bullet and get it done by a pro? Anyone know how much the condenser is on TC?
I am fairly handy as some on here will tell you and I have succesfully tackled the cambelt, camshaft seals and autobox oil change on the meega and several HG replacements on other cars (incl the 4 pot veccy)

as far as i know it wont engage if there is insufficient refrigerant in the system.it might be better to get that properly checked before you go any further. :y

Yeah that would suck if I changed a perfectly healthy condenser!
Hmmm, ok then I will go andf get it checked by someone when I get back then.

The condenser is the radiator at the front of the car in front of the coolant rad, it doesn't engage or disengage. Probably what you are talking about is the compressor.
I suggest that at this level of expertise you get a professional to do the work.

Tho by the sounds of it.....the fact it still has some gas in it......it maybe just low on pressure (the reason for it not working) and a recharge maybe all it needs :y

I would say, if there's doubt about the electrics, check that out first. Make sure the switch on the dash is working (maybe just bung a 2nd hand one in).
Once that's known to be good put a multimeter across the refrigerant triple switch and see if the low pressure side has made contact. If not, your problem is likely to be low refrigerant so at that point it's worth taking it to an air con specialist. They should vacuum out the system, check for leaks and then refill.
After that, it should either work, or they'll be able to diagnose further.
