Title: Steering Problem
Post by: loonatic on 26 January 2008, 19:47:47
I have a 'w' reg 3.0ltr MV6 estate with 67k on the clock which has developed a fault with the steering.

At slow speeds the steering is very heavy and sometimes a noise is heard coming from the engine bay area.

Am I right in thinking that it could be the power steering pump that is at fault ? if not any ideas ?

If it is the pump is this something I could swap out myself ? if not what sort of cost am I looking at ?

Many thanks, Lee

check the fuse first.

Thanks for the reply...would a fuse cause an intermittent problem ?

Also when at a standstill increasing RPM seems to alleviate the problem ?

Cheers, Lee

Try bleeding the system by turning it lock to lock a few times

Sounds like a tired pump, but check the fluid level and bleed, seeing as they are easy and free...

Anyone know what model pump my Omega would have fitted ? would it be a ZF unit ?
