Title: Still smell coolant and hear it

Hi all. Well i replaced the H.B.V and i can still smell coolant in the car and when i stop and park up i can hear a crackling sound (Thats the best way i can discribe it) when i get out and stand at the front of the car sounds like its coming from the back of the engine the H.B.V did look like it had seen better days but i still have this bloody smell and crackling sound any ideas im getting a bit ticked off to say the least.

 :(No one got any ideas guys... i know that peeps have had / having various problems with coolant but i have not seen anything on hear that mite be the same any ideas would be a great help.

Only thing I can think of is that coolant or oil is leaking onto a hot exhaust. :-/

one possible reason for that is leaking heater matrix like mine did..

and solution is dash out job..

HELL NOOO i dont want to have to get that done what a get of a job...

crackling could be coolant hitting hot exhaust.

could one of the HBV hoses be split?  Try shining a torch in there and see if you can see damp/drip etc.

Is your coolant level dropping?

yep..a hell of a job..here I pay approx 200 £ including the part and work :(

and a whole day , tricky job..if you are not carefull you will break some plastic parts..

Has dropped a little bit but only just noticed so i'm now keeping a more watchfull eye i had guessed it was the coolant falling onto the exhaust that was making the crackling sound will defo check the pipes around the h.b.v maybe your right and i just dident see it before

Thats all i need knowing my luck it will be the matrix and i'l get that sorted and then hear loads of tapping sounds due to plastic bits broken or missing. Oh well i'l have to wait and see what happens.
