Title: Smokey smokey...
Post by: PaulW on 30 January 2008, 13:50:33
Started the car thismorning, pulled off, lovely bit of blue smoke from behind :( first time I've ever noticed this...

I know the rocker cover on the passenger bank needs sorting, so just wondering if this can cause a 'seep' through the plugs, or through the exhaust manifold???  Or if it may well be stem seals giving the ghost :(

Smoke was only from starting, no other smoke during the journey, or from standing still for about 15 mins and starting again mid-journey.

No coolant loss, and a very slight oil loss (which will most likely be caused form the rocker gasket anyways) so nothing really out of the ordinary!  Also still the flatspot from 3k to 4k, and some hunting (again, most likely oil in plug wells) plus the rear multiram isnt operating (need new solenoid I think)

fun time fun times  ;D

If it only does it after sitting over night then stem seals is the obvious answer.
However if the plug wells are full of oil then its possible for oil to maybe seep down the threads overnight and give the symptoms of stem seal wear.

I think the plugs should be tighter than that!

Either way, if I dont do it before, I'll be doing the rocker cover at the cambelt party at tunnies so see whats what then.  Hopefully with new plugs and leads aswell

Should be yes, but i have removed plugs before after a camcover gasket failure and the whole tip of the plug has been soaked in oil.
