Title: 2.2 auto gear change problem
Post by: orangepants on 28 January 2008, 21:41:42
Hi all, hope someone can help! I have a 2.2 Auto on a 'Y' plate which has recently developed an intermittent problem when changing gear. Now and again it won't change from 2nd to 3rd. The only way I can 'force' it to is by getting it up to 4,000 revs or by suddenly taking my foot off the accelerator and it will then change after a second or so. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Chnage ATF immediately. Don't continue to drive for days and days until done.

It could also be a sticking solenoid.  If you have access to diagnostic kit, may be worth checking for codes in TCM, ABS, and Engine ECU

Please excuse my ignorance but what does ATF mean? Is it serious? I've been driving it for about 2 weeks like this so now you've got me worried!

ATF - Automatic Transmission Fluid - gearbox oil

Ignoring small autobox problems tends to get very expensive....
