check the idle control valve is nice and clean
-
yes im going to do that after my tea :y
-
and check the EGR if it's stuck open ..
-
whats the egr and is it easy to check :( :(

EGR is the chunk of steel on the opposite side of the inlet plenum from the idle valve.
Its straighforward to get an irn bru can and cut out the shape of the EGR base with scissors then insert it like a gasket. Should resolve very quickly any potential prob with the valve. Its only (I think) to lean down the air ratio when cruising, not at tickover...

Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve..
Here it is..Easy to check and clean

I though EGR was something being nice to the Ozone :-?

It is....
Leans the air mixture by introducing exhaust gas in as a % so that it further burns and reduces CO2 output...

Trust Brucie to have an empty Irn Bru can handy.

Actually its to reduce NO2, and also (marginally) improve economy by effectively reducing engine cc when cruising (by putting inert air in).
Diesels use egr far more than petrol

air leak.
try spraying small squirts of carb cleaner around the plenum joints with engine running and listen for a change in running note. If you find one area in particular, thats where your leak is.....
