i have had iffy wiring on my knock sensor for as long as i can remember, now it has completely given up.
I can't get one for love nor money, i have however got 2 knock sensors from a V6 cav, the connector ends are different.
what does anyone think the chances are of taking the sensor i have, taking the end off with a few inches of wire, taking the end off the cav one and splicing the two together.
My understanding is that the sensor base would be the same, so long as i can get a good solder on the wire then surely it would work
oh yes.....and can anyone tell me how to route the cable on the replacement as it doesn't look like i will be able to get it to follow the same route as the original

Is this the 2 sensors that bolt into the crankcase below the manifolds jay ?

Should be fine as long as you are careful joining the screen.
I have repaired a few that have had chats with cam covers and aux belts!

As Marks_DTM says, it is possible to join the cables (common for them to get trapped under cam covers). Its a coax type cable, so try to keep the screening OK.
On Proj TB1, I soldered and heatshrank the core, then put a bit of tin foil round it, tucking under braid, and soldered the braid together. I intended to solder braid to foil, but it would take. Not sure if this was right or wrong, but it worked

put it all back together today...EMl is still on TC17...
So... how the hell do you get at the bloody thing???

drove from Plymouth to Epsom this morning, EML light is on and off....
can feel wheh the sensor is not pickiing up, it feels like a misfire, it is frequent enough to keep the light on for most of the journey.
I have a feeling this one will need replacing rather than constantly bodging the wiring but i can't for the life of me find it, does anyone know where it is and how to get to it, i have looked from the top and bottom and can see the square root of diddly
Jamie, you say it is co-ax, this one isn't, it is a twin core cable with one of them insulated and the other not

Fault on knock sensor will retard that bank fully, hence run like a Fiesta.
Bank 1 sensor is behind alternator, bank 2 up near engine mount. I think you have to remove mount to get to it iirc. Not sure if A/C will be in the way.
I think 17 is bank 2.

Sure you did knock sensor and not cam sensor wiring?

the wire goes down between the top hose and dipstick tube and then disappears into the bowels of the engine.
I'm running on LGP so limp mode wouldn't have an effect on the LPG ecu, but it would still retard other aspects of the engine that it has control over.
if i flick it over to petrol then it does run like it has 90bhp, back to LPG and it takes off again
I damaged the sensor wire many moons ago when i did the rocker covers for the first time, it has been soldered but i have a feeling that the wiring is brittle where it has been bared back and left open to the elements for a while.
Replacement is on the cards and i am not looking forward to it, this might be a job for the garage

Probably, with engine mount out of way, it is probably easy. Not got TIS on this PC to check 'official method'

Probably, with engine mount out of way, it is probably easy. Not got TIS on this PC to check 'official method'
still looks like an impossible task then :'(

I seem to recall that you can get to it with the oil filter housing removed as its pretty close to one of the oil cooler pipe connections........will have a little peek tonight.
