Title: A Huge Thank You
Post by: mark.adams on 06 February 2008, 15:03:13
To each and every one of you on here.
I just replaced my exhaust manifold gaskets and studs and now have a whisper quiet car. Something i would never have attempted without the assistance of the talented members of this forum.
I owe you all a debt of extreme magnitude.
Thank You... :)

Good job..

Did you use a new manifold or a nice seasoned one or was the old one ok and just needed the face flattening?

The old one was okay, i cleaned up the face.
The studs that i thought were snapped were just plain missing.
I got new studs and nuts, new gaskets and away it went.
Next project will be to get the heater matrix hoses off and flush the matrix out.
I must say, since sorting out the manifold it idles smoothly now too.

Thats good, I personaly prefer to use a seasoned manifold as generaly they have warped about as much as they are ever going to already.

I flatten them off with a belt sander.

Yours is on a V6, much less trouble to do as there is no worry about snapped studs!

97 onwards, generaly no.

They only tend to snap on the 4 pots because the manifold warping puts them under a lot of stress.
