hi there all, just joined the site for some info really.i currently drive a 96 2.5 bmw 3 series coupe, but am considering a 3.2 mv6.i like to have fun with the rear wheel drive at roundabouts, and drift a bit on track and im wondering does the 3.2 come with a limited slip diff...? if not can they be bought handy enough, or can i just remove the fuse for the traction control and does it then become a power lock diff...?also what sort of price do manual gear boxes come in at to do a conversion from auto to manual....?
i see the 3.2 has 217bhp, how easily can they be tuned up cheaply...?
cheers for the help folks

retail 3.2's will all be auto's unless its x-police.
Manual boxes can be found, but not easy.
LSD's are also rare, optional extra on retail spec cars, some x-police cars have them, not all.
Chipping wise... not a lot can be done. The 3.0 can be chipped though, and can be found in manual forum with retail spec, and they are around in the facelift (up to 2001)

what sort of bhp would be gained on the 3.0 with chipping...?
it would be an ex police 3.2 id consider, but is there any way of telling that uve struck lsd gold...?

Chipping a NA car like 3.0/3.2 will give at best 10% or so.
Not sure a 3.2 is 217bhp - the figures vary, but is going to be around the same as 3.0, just under 210bhp I'd say.

Vx handbook gives 3.2 as 217 BHP, 160 KW
Parkers thinks its 213 BHP
Wikipedia gives 217 BHP
Road & Track think its 225 BHP !!
Personally I'll stick with the manufacturers figure of 217 BHp :)

so not much bhp differnce between the 3.0 and 3.2, any reliability issues between them...?which is the better pick..?

both have issues, but it seams the coil packs on the 3.2's are not as reliable as the externally mounted dis pack.
Maybe due to the heat in the V killing the DIS. seen few failures.
