Title: KEY FOB
Post by: subski on 08 February 2008, 10:30:20
Hi, got an Omega 2.0 gls Auto Estate 2 weeks ago, the key fob dosn't work, tried the battery with no joy. Any ideas on what I can do, or where I can get one,
as the alarm goes off every time I use the key.

Thanks in anticipation

Buttons on the key fob can fail, and it's generally easier to repair them than buy a new fob and have it paired with the car. if you're not handy with a soldering iron there are a few of us on here (myself included) who can fix them.

Have you tried re-synching it as described in the car's manual?

Failing that you can get them on ebay second hand and get one of our Tech 2 guys to pair them to the car. Make sure you get exactly the right type, though, as there are several types of fob which look identical but are not compatible with each other.

Is it prefacelift or facelift? Are you near me (brackley) or Marks_DTM (Nottigham)?  Why not update your profile with location and car ;)

Is it 2 button or 3 button?

Ah, if red light doesn't light, its donald ducked.

If you are good with soldering iron, it may be either the switches, or the battery connection.

A replacement fob will need coding to car (http://theboy.omegaowners.com or local autolocksmith).

I'm not that far away (work in Fleet, live in Alton) so if you can get the fob to me I will have a look at it and see if the button is the culprit?

Hi
Had a similar problem with the 2 button fob, turned out to be a dry joint on the battery holder. You dont need to be an expert to repair but keep the heat to a minimum when re-soldering. If you look at the back of the circuit board with a magnifying glass the soldered joint should look smooth and bright, check any that look dull and crazzed.
Hope this saves some trouble. :)

As a related topic, When I bought my 2.5 elite recently I was given a second key/fob it has a new battery but it does not work, looks new BUT it does not have a red led, just the 2 open/close buttons, no red led?
I suppose it's from a christmas cracker then.

there is some faint writing on back - is it same as your existing one?
