Evening ALL, Benn having problems with my car for a while, just keeps revving by itself, revs very high on first start up then just revs from around 1000rpm to 2000 rpm and so on, looked for air leaks (all ok) checked idle control valve (ok), so a mate of mine put it on his tech 2 (well think its tech 2) and it cam up with crank sensor, only thing is ive had it on this machine before when my dis pack went but it came up with a different fault..
SO....do any of you guys reckon the symptoms match the fault reading..dont want to start replacing parts that dont need to be replaced.

what fault code came up on "techII" and have you paperclipped it ( search for paper clip test in the search box)

As well as paperclip test, check that your Throttle Butterflies fully
close, with the linkage against the throttle stop.
Check for full and free movement, and condition, of your throttle
cable.
Check security and condition of your Throttle Position Sensor.
All above checks will cost you nothing, and will rule any simple stuff
out before you have to start digging deeper.

Forgot to add.
When you do the above throttle checks, (static),
do the checks again with the engine running so that
a suction force is applied to the Butterflies and Throttle
linkage (dynamic checks).

As well as paperclip test, check that your Throttle Butterflies fully
close, with the linkage against the throttle stop.
Check for full and free movement, and condition, of your throttle
cable.
Check security and condition of your Throttle Position Sensor.
All above checks will cost you nothing, and will rule any simple stuff
out before you have to start digging deeper.
Not done a paper clip test and not sure what the fault code was, only that it was the crank sensor..

ive had all this lot off and cleaned everything with carb cleaner, thats when it started reving by itself, i put some 3 in one oil on the butterflys afterwards and also in the ICV, ive had the plenum off about 3 time to check everything but its always the same,,just keeps revving

You usually find that the TPS mounting screws pass through slots,
not round holes, in the TPS. This gives some 'wiggle' room.
Loosen screws, ensure Throttle Butterfly is fully closed and linkage
on throttle stop.
Tighten screws again when sure Throttle is in correct position.
Check screw slots to ensure that they are not cracked or broken
due to over tightening.
Check casing of TPS for cracks that could let in moisture and
cause 'tracking'.
Check and clean electrical cable connections on plug and TPS.
Check for broken or bent electrical pins.

Never looked at the ICV on a V6, as I have a 4 pot. Is there a gasket
between the ICV and throttle body?
If so, and if it's not perfect, this is exactly the sort of fault that
would cause your symptoms on a 4 pot.
Sorry, no experience on the V6 :( , but some one here should be
able to offer an opinion.

between the ICV and throttle body?
If so, and if it's not perfect, this is exactly the sort of fault that
would cause your symptoms on a 4 pot.
Sorry, no experience on the V6 :( , but some one here should be
able to offer an opinion.
No gasket as such, but there is a big rubber seal which the IACV pushes into, so check this.
Check for airleaks using carb cleaner whilst engine is running
