Title: Quick crankcase breather ?
Post by: Boris on 09 February 2008, 02:27:22
Sorry if this is a dumb question or in the wrong section but couldn't find the answer I was looking for.

I removed the crankcase breather from my engine block (3.0 V6). The metal box that bolts to the motor behind the head.
Inside there was a plastic what looks like baffle that partially blocked off one of the holes. The piece was warped but the moment I touched it the thing crumbled to dust and now I don't know what to do.
Should I make something that would fit the original location or is it OK to reinstall the breather without that part ?

Can't find anything in my service manual or in any thread discussing the breather so maybe I'm the only one dumb enough to have broken that bit.

I appreciate any help as I need to have this motor back in the car and running by Sunday.

Hi Mate, I think you would be ok fitting one or part of one of those pan scourers that look like a composition of "Drill Swarf".
I had this problem when I had an old VX 2.3 it had a wire mesh type that completely dissintergated when touched, the plastc one did an excellent job and lasted years.

That is a brilliant idea.
So simple, why didn't I think of it ?

Time to raid the kitchen for some supplies while avoiding the little woman's frying pan.

Thank you.
