Strange one to me......I was driving to work this morning with the radio on and the heated rear window.....after about 10 mins the radio started to hiss and crackle. I changed channel as i thought it may have been a bad reception on that station, only to find all the stations were the same................when i turned off the heated window the radio came back ok, when i turned the heated window back on the interference came back.
On the way home i had the radio on and the heated window to see if it was still the same, everything was ok, then after about 5 mins the interference came back..........again when i turned the heated window off the radio was ok.
Does anyone have any idea what this could be, i have checked around the car inner and everything i dry, i thought it may have been damp causing the issue.could it be the heated window relay on its way out.

it also depends on where you are, and what buildings are around, you'll get weaker signals that'll go generally unnoticed if the heated screen is off

Noted...........but i have gone that way to work for the past few years with no problems, I know signals are not always the same every day but no matter where i was in Newport it did it everytime i put on the heated window.maybe today was a weak signal day for the area.I will see what its like tomorrow, I tried it about 20 mins ago and it was the same, the wife has no problems in her Corsa.

As you know, your radio aerial shares the heated rear screen
element.
If you are getting hiss and crackle when the element is powered,
(in use as a heated rear screen), this could indicate that the cabling,
(power or earth return), is breaking down somewhere, or that the
element is scratched itself.
In this scenario, you would get small arcing across the bad connection,
which would show itself as 'noise' that would be picked up by the
aerial and translated into hissing and crackling through your
stereo speakers.
When your heated rear screen is not in use, (switched off), then there
will be no power, so no arcing, so no 'noise' to be picked up by
your aerial.
The above seems to be your situation to a 'T'.

Check the earth connection.....if they are loose when the heater is turned on the connection warms up and it screws the radio reception.

Thanks for your advice, I will check out tomorrow.

Done about 60 mile today and everywhere i went it was the same, i checked all the connections and they seem to be ok...could it be the relay, i may change it to see what happens.

Do a careful close up inspection of each element in your HRW.
What you are looking for is a very small, darkened, blackish
spot anywhere in the thin element. This will indicate a small
scratch or breakdown in the element that is causing arcing
and burning as the current jumps the gap.
Similar, in a way, to a microscopic spark plug. :)
